Spaccanapoli tours in Italian

In short: yes, tours in Italian exist and are the majority. The most booked tour of the historic centre, the one with the Veiled Christ and the cloister of Santa Chiara, is available in Italian. The tour on origins, cults, and legends is in Italian, English, French, and Spanish; the guided visit to the Sansevero Chapel alone is in Italian, English, and French; the private tour is in Italian, English, Spanish, French, and German. The street food tour is conducted in English.

Which to choose if you want Italian

The historic centre tour with included entries is the most booked and is available in Italian: two and a half hours, meeting point in piazza del Gesù Nuovo in front of the tourist information office. If you’re more interested in the story of the city’s origins, the origins, cults, and legends tour starts in piazza Bellini, has a small group, and is also available as a private option. For just the Veiled Christ, there’s the short chapel visit in Italian, which lasts just over half an hour. The full routes are in all tours.

Minimum participants

For one of the tours, the one that starts in piazza Dante and covers the historic centre and Spaccanapoli, a minimum of four participants per language is required. In practice: if the Italian departure doesn’t reach the number, that language won’t run, and you’ll only find out close to the time. If you have only one date and can’t risk surprises, the private option solves the problem at the root: private tours.

Headsets

They’re more useful than they seem. On this street, background noise is constant, and groups stretch out, so without a radio guide you lose half the story. The most booked tour uses them for large groups, the origins and legends tour includes them, and the tour from piazza Dante hands them out for groups of six or more. Opinions on individual guides are in the reviews.

Large group or small group

In Italian, you’ll find both. The most booked tour also works with large groups and provides headsets for that reason; the origins, cults, and legends tour keeps the group small. In the first case, movement is slower in narrow passages, and entry to the Sansevero Chapel is staggered because the number of people per entry is limited. In the second, you can ask more questions. Which of the two bothers you more is something only you know: opinions from those who’ve been are in the reviews.

Local tip

Check the language on the booking box before confirming: the same activity may have departures in different languages on the same day, and not always at the same time.
