Reviews of Spaccanapoli tours

Reviews

I’m Nunzia. I’ve always lived between via San Biagio dei Librai and vico Figurari, and I walk the street almost every morning. Here you’ll find six tours that truly cover the lower decumanus, one by one: what each includes, where you meet, who they suit, and who would do better to skip them. The street itself is always free: what you book is the storytelling and the entrance tickets to the interiors. If you’re not sure whether you need a guide, start with whether it’s worth it.

How I wrote them

The rating and number of reviews are the data GetYourGuide shows on the tour page: I report them without rounding up. The rest comes from two things: the programme stated by the operator and what people who’ve taken the tour write. When a tour has few reviews, I mention it at the top, not the bottom. I never name the operator, because departures change management and the guide you get matters more than the brand. The side-by-side comparison of all six is in all tours; what costs and what doesn’t is in how much it costs.

The six tours, one by one

If I had to pick one

On my first visit, I recommend the city centre tour with the Veiled Christ: two and a half hours, the two tickets that make the queue worthwhile already sorted, and a rating backed by nearly seven thousand reviews. Those who have already seen the Chapel and want to understand how the city works beneath their feet choose origins and legends. Those who arrive hungry go for street food. Before booking anything, check when to go: in mid-August at noon, the decumanus has no shade.

Local tip

Between November and 6 January, tours passing through San Gregorio Armeno slow down considerably: the alley is walked shoulder to shoulder. Opt for an early morning start.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose which tours to review?

I only review tours that actually walk the lower decumanus or the interiors that open onto it: there are six, and I review them all, even the one with the lowest rating. I don’t remove a product just because it has few reviews; I simply state it. The side-by-side comparison is in all tours.

Are the reviews independent?

Yes. I’m not a tour operator and I don’t sell tickets: when you book, you go through GetYourGuide and I may receive a commission, without you paying more. How it works is explained in full in affiliation.

Do I have to book a tour to see Spaccanapoli?

No. The street is public, open, and free, and at a slow pace it takes half an hour to walk: see how long it is. You pay for the guide and for the interiors, such as the cloister of Santa Chiara and the Cappella Sansevero.

Which is the most suitable tour for first-time visitors?

The one covering the centre with the Veiled Christ and the cloister of Santa Chiara: two and a half hours with both tickets included in the price. The full review also explains who I wouldn’t recommend it to.
